Finally! A new form of the month...For March, I have selected the Pantoum, a Malayan poetic form which originated sometime in the 15th century. The Pantoum has roots in Chinese and Persian poetry. The lines can be of any single length in any particular meter. It consists of an indefinite number of quatrain stanzas with particular restrictions. Lines two and four of each stanza, in heir entirety, are repetons and become lines one and three of the following stanza, and so on. The rhyme scheme is interlocking.

The poem can be ended in one of two ways, ether in a quatrain whose repetons are lines one and three of the first stanza in reversed order, or in a repeton couplet consisting of lines one and three of the first stanza in reversed order. The pattern for a four stanza pantoum would be as is written below.

1. A1
2. B1
3. A2
4. B2

5. B1
6. C1
7. B2
8. C2

9. C1
10. D1
11. C2
12. D2

13. Z1 or A2
14. A2 or A1
15. Z2
16. A1

This form is a blast to write! Enjoy!!!
