Subject: 1957 Chris Craft Sea Skiff 25ft (Value)

I have recently acquired a 1957 Sea Skiff 25ft with cradle and tandem axle trailer. I'm not sure if I want to sell it or keep the boat to restore. The boat has been out of the water for several years. I don't know the history of the boat, but I do believe there has been some work done in the past. The transom looks to of been replaced at some time along with some of the planks, which are butt blocked together. The engine is a 6cyl. Chris Craft marine engine Model "M" Engine No. 300888. Hull No. SK26562. I got the motor to turn over but not fire. The forward deck of the boat is soft and needs replaced along with a lot of paint and varnish work.
Can anybody give me any ideas what it might be worth as it sits and when it is restored to sea worthy condition.
Thanks, Eric

It's difficult to answer your questions with any degree of accuracy because the worth of a wood boat depends largely on how sound the hull and engine are. Here are some ranges for your boat assuming no major structural problem: As is- $2000 to $4000. The cost to professionaly restore it to good running condition and presentable user appearance (not show quality)-$25000 to $35000. The restored market value would be $15000 to $20000. Don't restore it to make money unless you can do the work yourself. Restore it to enjoy it...MHW
