Subject: possible new owner

I have recently the oppritunity to own a 20ft(skiff?) and am wondering if there are some tale/ tale signs as to the year make and model and being that i have never owned a wooden hull boat before what should i look for. the boat is 20ft with flooring intact all appears to be original, bow to stern everything seems solid, transom also solid original molding appears to also all be there.Cushions were removed and placed in the attic of sellers house, the only concerning part is a very small patch job on the starboard side and there is no trailer. any advice is appreciatded.

[> If you've never had a wooden boat before, I'd recommend finding someone who can survey the boat for you before buying. There's so much to look for with a woody, from dry rot, to the shape of the ribs, the transom, the bottom, the stringers, bulkhead, etc...On the surface it may look fine, but you never know where soft spots could be looking. If it were me, I'd pull up the floor boards, with my trusting awl or penknife start poking the wood. Any soft spots (like a sponge) indicate rot, which grows rapidly. Wish I'd of gotten a surveryor for my first boat. -- Jennifer, 20:26:20 01/08/08 Tue (c-76-97-48-117.hsd1.ga.comcast.net/76.97.48.117)
