My father has a cribbage board that he made while he was in Canada in the 1950s. The pegs are missing, but the rest of it looks pretty.

A few months ago, I found one of those computer disks with a collection of card games on them. I thought:

"This will be nice for Dad to play on the computer."

He played a few hands against the machine and was happy enough. Then he started playing Freecell and Solitaire and we both gradually forgot about the other games.

After about 50 games of Mah Jongg in a row that neither of us could win, I suggested he look at the Cribbage game again. I'm beginning to regret it....

This is what I'm listening to right now....

"Six and a ten... Oh that's not too bad! One for a Go! He has 12... I've 12... 115... He's 8... 102... and his Crib has 2.... 104 plays 115, Will! And it's my Crib this time! Look! I'm not going to throw him a big one this time.... One... six... seven... I have 12 in my hand Will, look! I kept two aces, a queen and a king.... and I won. Now it's two games each...."

Yesterday this running commentary was accompanied by him tapping me on the arm after every comment. I had to ask him to stop. A bruise would have developed otherwise.

I think my computer is about to have an accident... one in which all the card games disappear...
