Author: Most SR feis are set up as double age groups. If numbers are high, they often split out by age year.
Subject: I'm not sure what level you are referring to, but syllabus is clearly set up with double age groups in prelim/open.

Age groups are different than age years. Two age groups can consist of four age years. Reading the comps on efeis is not the same as reading the real syllabus posted on the website. If you register a dancer who is the older year in a double age group, you may not realize it is double. If you register a dancer in the lower age group year, you will only see the "double" age group, or the higher year group.
Also, single jigs are usually very small in SR, so not unheard of to see 1 or 2 entries. Combining makes sense and it doesn't help a dancer move up.

  • I believe they rule is you may combine up to two age GROUPS. If a feis has u8,u9,u10,u11, they may combine 2 of those, if the feis has u8,u10,u12, they can combine two of those. Results in a multi year age group, but is allowed. It's only 2 age groups. Anyway, my dancer's have done very well as u7 or u8 dancing way up, age doesn't matter as much as having the numbers to count. (NT) -- Will be fine, 11:19:47 02/28/17 Tue
