Subject: We often travel to Colorado from VA (although not to feis) as we have family there. Younger dancers probably won't have an issue, but it might be an issue for an older dancer (more inside)
In reply to: CC 's message, "Question for those of you who travel to Colorado for feising... more" on 16:30:36 03/07/17 Tue

I would give an older dancer at least a day or 2 to acclimate to the altitude. You are not going to get true altitude sickness, but you might get a bit more winded than usual. Certainly a person with asthma will have more problems adjusting. The Estes Park is in the mountains, which is going to be more problematic than Feile Denver or Pikes Peak Feis (incidently not in the mountains). You'll need to increase your water intake by a lot, use sunscreen as soon as you land at the airport, and have moisturizer and lip balm at the ready. Also - and not saying this is your intent at all - but some people travel to CO thinking it will be a nice vacation and your kid will rack up 2 firsts in a double feis. This really depends on the age group, but in some age groups competition is fierce (particularly the younger groups up to U12).
