In reply to: Confused 's message, "How is it legal to take money for underage kids to dance while not paying kids? It seems very wrong." on 07:54:43 03/23/17 Thu

Our dance tuition barely covers the cost of our studio rental, so without additional fundraising, the TCRGs would essentially be teaching for nothing. And don't forget the hours OUTSIDE class, the TCRGs spend choreographing new material, laying out show schedules, etc. We are a small school with less than 30 youth dancers. We have a fundraiser/recital, which still doesn't cover the time our TCRGs spend working with our kids. We don't always charge for performances, but when we do, the money is added to the recital revenue and distributed appropriately. Not everything is as sinister as you might think.

  • If your kid participates in a band concert in high school, are they getting paid even if the high school charges $5 to go to the concert? No- they are putting that (small) amount back into the music program to benefit your kids. Same thing for dance schools. If you don't trust that your TC is using any money raised for a good cause then find another or don't participate. (NT) -- Common sense. You volunteer to participate in Irish dancing., 11:03:19 03/23/17 Thu
  • Public HS do not charge $ to go to a band concert. A PTO might sponsor and charge for a concert. That is a different type of organization. TC's are all running for-profit businesses. It seems like there is a lot of misunderstanding out there!! (NT) -- mom, 11:35:02 03/23/17 Thu
  • Public schools DO charge for events - football games, concerts, plays, etc... (NT) -- Nunya, 15:43:38 03/23/17 Thu
