I must object to you assertion that people in the past somehow had the time or desire to "meditate on the Gospels the way they did in days gone by."in various eras of history, none of which I have lived in, most people could not read, nor did they do much philosophizing, much the same way things are now. This is not an argument about your main point, just your assertions to back it up. I actually find it foolish that any Christians object to a film like this, (I have not seen it) for being too graphic or too gruesome. There is no such thing as bad press, and as far as getting their beliefs to the forefront of peoples minds, nothing like a little controversy to do so.
