CECH BREAKS SCHMEICHEL RECORD
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has set a new record for the longest run without conceding a Premiership goal.
The Czech Republic international only needed to survive three minutes of the match against Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday to break the previous best mark set by Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel in 1997.

But, with the help of a first-half penalty save from Paul Dickov, he managed another 90 minutes in Chelsea's 1-0 win.

Cech last conceded a league goal to Arsenal striker Thierry Henry in the 2-2 draw on December 12.

Schmeichel’s mark was set between May 8 and September 13, 1997.

Here are the top nine longest runs in the Premiership, as of February 2, 2005:

Petr Cech, Chelsea - 781 minutes (13/12/2004 to present)

Peter Schmeichel, Manchester United - 694 minutes (08/05/1997 to 13/09/1997)

Jerzy Dudek, Liverpool - 673 minutes (22/01/2002 to 06/03/2002)

Paul Jones, Southampton - 667 minutes (31/01/2001 to 17/03/2001)

Neville Southall, Everton - 646 minutes (01/11/1994 to 17/12/1994)

Mark Schwarzer, Middlesbrough - 612 minutes (26/10/2003 to 13/12/2003)

Alex Manninger, Arsenal - 596 minutes (31/01/1998 to 14/03/1998)

Craig Forrest, Ipswich Town - 589 minutes (17/10/1993 to 08/12/1993)

David James, Aston Villa - 568 minutes (22/01/2000 to 09/04/2000)
