I hate to see faires die, but a faire is like any other business.

A poorly managed faire will fail in the same way that a poorly managed business will fail. Like any other business, a faire has to advertize to let potential customers know that they exist. A faire that treats its partners (cast, independant acts, vendors) poorly will not succeed. A faire that doesn't provide what its customers expect (good entertainment for their dollar) will not get return visitors and won't be able to grow. And a faire that can't attract customers will not make money for its partners, and those partners will not continue to return each year, and then you're into the faire death spiral.

But the fact of the matter is, rennies are not the core business for any faire. The mundanes are. And mundanes don't follow the rennie message boards and blogs. The mundanes have no idea what we're saying about any faire. Rennies have been bad mouthing King Dick's for years, and it hasn't closed down yet.

The mundanes are not going to faire because gas is over $4 a gallon and the economy is tough right now.
