Couple of dates to announce here, for those interested in all things Gypsy and/or Middle Eastern!
* Gypsy Fusion Bellydance classes begin Thursday, October 16th from 7-8:30pm. Cost is $15 per class, and drop-ins are welcome. Gypsy Fusion Bellydance is the style you have seen me doing at faire for lo these many years. It incorporates American Cabaret, Turkish Romany, and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance with a bit of Spanish Flamenco, and Indian dance, added to the mix. The Gypsy (Romany) people originated in India and travelled throughout the Middle East and the Mediterranean; this dance form is a blend of all those Gypsy Road influences ~ with my own, fun twist to it.
* Our Grand Opening Party is Saturday November 1, from 12-6pm. Free Henna designs by Maria of “Ancient Fire Henna”, dance demonstrations by our teachers, and live musical performances, all throughout the day! Light refreshments will be served. NOTE THAT OUR REGULAR STORE HOURS BEGIN SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1: THEY ARE TUESDAY-SATURDAY, 12-6PM.
If you're interested in all things Bellydance, or if you are simply a Gypsy at heart and looking for a little October magic, please visit The Dancing Gypsy! We are a brand-new Bellydance shop and studio in the heart of New England. Our aim is to introduce people to the world of Bellydance, ethnic music, and the rich and diverse cultures from which these arts spring, including the culture of the Romany ~ the “real life” Gypsy people. The Dancing Gypsy is also here to offer a taste of different Near and Middle Eastern cultures to take home with you.
We will be offering Bellydance classes and workshops in various styles, including Gypsy Fusion, American Cabaret, Tribal Fusion, Bollywood, and Gothic. We will also be offering drumming classes, workshops, and open jams for interested musicians and dancers. Additionally we will be hosting haflas ~ Middle Eastern dance parties ~ on a regular basis. Stop by and shop for handcrafted Bellydance costumes, jewelry, and accessories; ethnic clothing and musical instruments from the Near and Middle East; teas, coffees, spices, and herbal products; home décor items; books, CDs, and DVDs; a little Gypsy magic...and more… for your enjoyment!
We are located on the second floor of the Sugden Building, at 117 Main Street, in Spencer, MA. (One hour from either Boston or Amherst.) The building dates back to the mid-19th century and gives our shop a lovely “old world” ambiance. We have plenty of free parking, and are handicapped-accessible. Enter at the back or side door… and step into another time and place!
