What: Gypsy Fusion Bellydance and Cabaret Bellydance classes
The Dancing Gypsy is offering two styles of bellydance to choose from in our very first class schedule!
Gypsy Fusion Bellydance classes begin Thursday night, October 16th, from 7-8:30. This style is a combination of American Cabaret Bellydance, Turkish Romany, a little Tribal, plus a little Flamenco and Indian dance. It is taught by TDG owner Shekina and is a mix of styles that she has been doing at Renaissance faires while portraying a Gypsy character. It is beginner to intermediate level and will involve warmup, drills, combinations, and choreography. You will learn spins, gestures, skirtwork, and other aspects of dance that relate to the Gypsy style, including Turkish and Spanish rhythms. There will also be the chance to perform at a Dancing Gypsy hafla in the spring. Price is $15 per person per class, and drop-ins are welcome.
We will also be offering Beginner Cabaret Bellydance on Tuesday nights starting November 4th, from 7-8:30pm. Price is also $15 per class. This class will be taught by Loreli, who has been a professional Cabaret dancer in the Boston and Worcester area for over 20 years. You will learn the basic bellydance movements used in Cabaret dance routines seen in restaurants and nightclubs. Belly rolls, hip drops, graceful arm movements, shimmies, basic traveling steps, and veil dancing will be covered. You will learn to put it all together in a three or five part rountine or simple choreography. Traditional music and rhythms will also be covered, and there will be tips on costuming and stage presence.
