Subject: Drum Workshop With Brian of Diabolis In Musica 11/22

Greetings All ~

Our first Weekend Workshop at The Dancing Gypsy, is Beginner Doumbek with Brian LeDuke of Diabolis In Musica! It will be held on Saturday November 22 from 2-3:30pm. The cost is $15, and students are asked to bring both a drum and a chair to sit on (unless you like floor cushions :) PLEASE EMAIL THE DANCING GYPSY TO SIGN UP FOR THIS WORKSHOP. Prepay is not required, but we need to have a definite list of who's coming so we can be prepared with materials. Thank you!

Beginner Doumbek is a prelude to a regular weekly class that Brian will soon be offering, so this is a chance to try it out. Brian will teach some of the more common rhythms associated with bellydance and middle-eastern music. You will be learning basic techniques (and what typical pitfalls to avoid) when you practice with your drum, such as how to correctly position the hands, how to strike the drum correctly to avoid fatigue, as well as staying on time and avoiding "overplaying" when drumming for a dancer. There will be a few extra drums available if needed, and there will also be drums for sale.

A brief bio of your teacher: Brian has studied under such artists as Carmine Guida and Raqui Danziger. He is a tupan, doumbek and saz player for the band Diabolis in Musica and performs at many renaissance faires and SCA events in the area. He has also been a professional rock drummer for over 20 years and brings decades of mad rhythm skills to the art of middle eastern drumming!

To register, please email thedancing.gypsy@yahoo.com and we hope to see you on the 22nd! This class is filling up fast, so reserve a spot soon!

The studio is at 117 Main Street in Spencer, MA -- directions can be found at the bottom of the following webpage:

[> PS: New Dancing Gypsy Website -- The Dancing Gypsy, 15:40:47 11/17/08 Mon

Just FYI everyone, I have changed my main Dancing Gypsy website over to a MySpace page. My (free) Yahoo Geocities page seems to have frozen solid in the last week or so ~ I haven't been able to update it at all, and the Help desk has not answered any queries, so goodbye to that. Besides, it's easier to keep in touch with a large network through MySpace... and it's also free... so it was a no-brainer. Many of you may get a Friend request from me in the next day or two, so please join if you want to keep updated!

Anyway, even if you are not signed up with MySpace, you can still see everything on the page, and event updates will be on the blog. Pictures of the shop and the merchandise will also be coming soon, thanks to my nifty new digital camera.

The new URL is: www.myspace.com/thedancinggypsy

Thanks for your patience... see you soon!
