FOR ALL OF YOU GYPSIES AT HEART... REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR WINTER SESSION 2009 AT THE DANCING GYPSY!

TUESDAYS 7-8PM STARTING JANUARY 13TH: Intermediate Gypsy Fusion Bellydance with Dina. For dancers with some experience, this class features Turkish Gypsy style skirt dancing mixed with various styles of bellydance from around the Mediterranean and Near East. Content will include warmup, bellydance isolation drills, combinations, and choreography. There will also be performance opportunities at Dancing Gypsy showcases. Students are asked to wear a long skirt and a hip scarf to class. Be prepared to work hard, have fun, and dance with Gypsy "attitude". Opa!

WEDNESDAYS 7-8PM STARTING JANUARY 14TH: Beginner Improvisational Tribal Style Bellydance with Julyana. ITS Bellydance is a grounded and earthy style that focuses on a group dynamic, and is based on traditional tribal style dances from North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. You will learn to think on your feet with a group of other dancers and cue from their movements. Class will include simple line-ups, combinations, cues, and transitions. Breathing, stretching, and strengthening are an important part of each session, and Julyana goes over every movement thoroughly so that all will understand, even the most beginner level. Come experience this wonderfully popular style, and get addicted to Tribal!

THURSDAYS 7-8PM BEGINNING JANUARY 15TH: Beginner Cabaret Bellydance with Brooke Bishara. Here we focus on Classical Egyptian Cabaret movement technique, which is the foundation of much of our American bellydance style. Students will learn posture, breath, and how to connect to the music, as well as how to project yourself with confidence and grace. Class content includes drills, combinations, choreography, veil dancing, and finger cymbals. There will be performance opportunities also. Brooke's teaching style is supportive and fun, and you will defintiely take some techniques home to practice. Brooke has been dancing for a number of years at ethnic restaurants such as The Athenian Corner and Byblos, so don't miss the opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional.

ALTERNATE FRIDAYS 7-8PM STARTING JANUARY 16TH: Beginner Doumbek with Brian LeDuke. Learn some of the more common drum rhythms used in Middle Eastern music. Class will include basic techniques, such as hand positioning and how to play correctly for dancers ~ and also what pitfalls to avoid when practicing with your drum so that you don't fall prey to hand and wrist fatigue. Brian is the drummer for the band Diabolis In Musica and has been playing percussion for over 20 years, and he knows that the foundations of good technique are essential. Students are asked to bring their own drums to practice with; a few loaner drums are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Pre-registration is required for all bellydance classes (not for drum class). Cost is $10 per class for a 6-week session ($60) prepaid, due the first day of class and payable to the teacher. Drop in rate is $12 per class. Any cancellations due to inclement weather will be made up at the end of the semester.
