Subject: Looking for Something to do on Saturday? JALSAH at Dancing Gypsy!
Hello my Ren friends... for those of you interested in Middle Eastern drumming and dancing, JALSAH is coming to The Dancing Gypsy this Saturday May 16th!
Don't miss the chance to dance and learn traditional Middle Eastern music from one of the brightest stars in the bellyverse... Carmine Guida of NYC! Carmine is an accomplished musician who works with some of the best dancers and musicians on the East Coast: Autumn Ward, BellyQueen, Raquy and the Cavemen, and Dalia Carella to name just a few. He is also very active in the SCA and is a well-known Pennsic performer.
Anyhow, our caterer needs to know a headcount for the hafla buffet in advance, so please, if you intend to come to the Jalsah then you MUST register to come to this event.
THE GOOD NEWS IS: NO PRE-PAYMENT IS NECESSARY!
All you have to do is email me your name, address, phone, which workshops you'd like to take, and reserve a spot for the hafla. Then you pay us at the door on the day of the event, SATURDAY MAY 16TH.
To tempt you with the catering menu, it includes: Greek salad, hommus and pita, stuffed grapeleaves, meatballs, spinach pie, desserts and beverages... a full buffet for only $10!
We know you'll want to take workshops too, so we offer a SPECIAL COMBO DISCOUNT PRICE FOR THE WHOLE DAY OF WORKSHOPS PLUS THE HAFLA WITH THE BUFFET..... JUST $50! Where else can you get 9 hours of total Middle Eastern immersion with a famous NYC musician, plus dinner, for only $50??? :D
Here is the day's schedule:
"Begintermediate" Doumbek, $25, from 2-3pm.
Carmine teaches practical Middle Eastern rhythm combinations. Learn how to add fills and embellishments to make your drum playing more interesting... Perfect for anyone who knows the doumbek basics, but wants to learn more for that special performance, or simply for the next drum circle. Beginners and intermediates welcome; Carmine adjusts this class to YOUR needs and pace.
Drum Solos for Dancers and Drummers, $35, from 3:30-5pm.
Learn how to build your own drum solo routine! Carmine teaches drummers what the dancer is expecting, and how to play something interesting for them; Dina "The Dancing Gypsy" teaches dancers a few simple bellydance combinations that work well with particular doumbek riffs. Perfect for drummers who know the basics, and for dancers to learn about the drum solo from the drummer's perspective.
Jalsah Hafla, $10, from 6-9pm.
The Jalsah hafla is simply a big dance party, where all levels of experience are welcome, and the band is...Carmine and YOU! Workshop participants are encouraged to play their instruments in the hafla band. This is not a "show", it's a "do"... so bring your drums, instruments, dance gear, and your friends, and be ready to party!
AGAIN, THIS $70 VALUE CAN BE HAD FOR JUST $50 WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR ALL THREE.
And again, NO pre-payment is necessary, just email us at email@example.com to be put on the list, and we will see you there on Saturday.
I can't wait for the fun to begin!
Many Happy Shimmies ~
