Hi Ross,

In spite of my earlier reply to your question on the aircraft in Wast Water, I was looking through some civil AAIB reports earlier today and found the following:

Piper PA-28 Cherokee 140 G-AZYP Owned by Air Navigation &
Trading Co.Ltd,was on a private flight from Kirkbride to Blackpool, when for unknown reasons pilot deviated from intended route and struck Illgill Head, Wast Water in cloud. Aircraft hit mountain 50ft from the summit while flying at an altitude estimated as being between 1800 and 1900ft asl. 4 on board inc Pilot were killed.

Pilot: Mr Graham George Austin aged 28.
Mr S.R.Rogerson .

Plus 2 passengers, names N/K.

Not a Lancaster or Hudson for that matter, but another aircraft come to grief there none the less.
