Subject: Finish wax formulae

I tried making a hard wax described below (4:1 carnauba to paraffin) by Ray Lancon:

And when I added paint thinner, the wax solidified. So I closed the lid of the glass jar, adding a plastic sheet to improve the seal and placed it in the hot water again to dissolve the wax. The wax melted but the solvent also escaped leaving a solid wax that is impossible to use.

I tried it again, this time adding more paraffin wax and some beeswax (probably 20% paraffin and 10% beeswax and rest carnauba). I got the same result. Has anyone else tried making this kind of hard wax and do you have any suggestions on what can be done to prevent the thinner from evaporating.
