Ridg, in my old 2 car garage shop, I installed a heat pump. It was absolutley wonderful. It took the edge off in summer and kept it bearable in the winter. My garage was attached to the house via 1 wall. It was sheetrocked, but not insulated. I had a 16' wood garage door, 1 row of windows, facing west, and a rear entrance door. I cut a hole in my wall (east wall) and brick veneer to install it and it worked great.
I have an old window AC unit I am looking to get rid of if your are interested. I'm pretty sure it works, but if it doesn't, I'd give you your $50 back. It needs some cleaning up. I salvaged it out of a house in 1998. It looks plenty big enough for a 2 car garage. (Not sure if it is a heat pump though...)

Let me know. Todd
