Subject: gummy and bubbled linseed oil on hemlock beams

Hello. My husband and I had a post and beam home built and wanted too add some bookshelves so we went and bought Hemlock beams. I then put on linseed oil with a package of mildew resist formula mixed. The first coat dried very well but when I put the second coat on I have a sticky, gummy residue and in some spots little bubbles on the surface. I realize this is because the oil could not soak into the beams or I applied to soon after the first coat. Can you tell me a way to remove this gummy residue. I did buy some mineral spirits which I heard thins linseed oil. Will this be my best choice. Thanks, Heather Crawford
