Hi Heather. Yes, mineral spirits is probably your best bet for cleaning up the boiled linseed oil mess.

When you start over, thin your BLO with 50% mineral spirits. Put the BLO mixture on generously, let sit for a while, then wipe off the excess. After it dries for 24 hours or longer in a place that gets plenty of air circulation, they will be ready for a top coat finish. Todd
