Subject: Cutting Acrylic

I am trying to start a small business that entales cutting letters from acrylic. I am having a problem finding someone who can help me with this. I was wondering if a hand router- that is normally used for cutting wood, would work? So far, I have had a few pieces cut by a sign company using a gerber router. It was super pricy and all done by computer. The acrylic is no thicker than a quarter inch. I need to cut letters that are 9 inches tall and 6 inches wide. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you very much for your help. I am located in Sugar Land, and I would like to stay around this area.
