The simple answer is as big as you can afford:)

There are a lot of good models out there. I would try and read up on them a little before you purchase so you have a better idea of what you need. The "standard" hobby shop seems to be a 14" bandsaw. They are big enough to do most of what you want and cheap enough to not break the bank. I think Lowes or maybe homedepot has a Delta model on clearance price righ now for $369. There are a lot of good podcasts out there on bandsaws. One that comes to mind is found on the wood whispers web site:
