Subject: Brads for hardwood?

I've recovered some dining room chairs, and am having a problem tacking the backs back on. The chairs are rosewood, which is much harder than the brads (probably too thick) that I got at the hardware store.

Are there extra-hard brads available, or do I need some sort of nail gun? There are 8 chairs, and I've managed 5 nails so far in about 1/2 hour (taking the top of the brad off because it won't go between the threads of the fabric, nailing it in, taking it out because it bent, and then over again until I manage to get the brad in far enough).

thanks
Wendy
