 I have no idea what kind of wood it might be but it sounds interesting. Box elder has red or pink in it sometimes but the grain doesn't sound right. Neither does the yellow color. Good luck with the magnolia lids. I used some magnolia with spalted blue stains and some curl to make some sides. The wood was solid and the call turned out pretty but it wouldn't make a sound. Tried 14 different lids (13 different kinds of wood)and nothing worked. Even reformed the arc on the sides. No resonance at all, just a scraping sound. Will try again as I have quite a bit of the magnolia. The goal is a Dixieland special with magnolia sides, pecan blocks and a cypress lid.
