You had a much better day than I had over the weekend. Went to my farm for deer camp and found out I lost 10 chunks of poplar about 2 1/2' to 3' long and averaging 2' in diameter and half a pick up load of elm. The poplar had a lot of mineral stains and some spalting and about half the elm showed spalting. The whole 108 acres flooded on Oct. 27 for the third time since the middle of September. The creek took the poplar and the elm just floated out in the standing corn and I can't find it. Water got up on the ears of corn this time and most of the fields still had standing water in them. They finished shelling the corn Friday afternoon so you can imagine the ruts that the combine and grain cart left in the fields. Then it came another storm Friday night with a lot of rain. The tent stayed dry but the fields flooded more. All the ruts filled up with water. Even the Kawasaki Mule couldn't get around. It bottomed out in the ruts and wouldn't go. Had to break camp with no deer taken and get out since the creek was getting real close to the top of the banks and still rising. The final straws are my eyes are almost swollen shut now and my son-in-law thinks I broke a bone in the top of my foot since the front half of my left foot is mostly dark purple and pretty touchy. He thinks the swollen eyes is from campfire smoke or more likely from burning wood that had poison ivy on it. The foot problem is probably a stress fracture from trying to pull my boots out of the mud. I'll have to mend quickly because I'm going to try it again this weekend if it doesn't rain during the week. I think I need to get a shot to get over the desire to hunt. That sweet gum will probably be really pretty. I fished a little corner table out of a junk pile about 30 years ago and refinished it. It was sweet gum and the wood was beautiful. Still have that little table.
