Chuck, if you're going to make a glue and saw longbox check out the instructions on the Call Trader home page or go to www.customsawing.com and click on box call kits and then scroll down to the instructions and plans. You would have to modify each plan some to add a handle to the bottom and of course increase the length of the base, lid and sides for a longbox. Since both osage and apple are so hard my guess is that you will get a very high pitched call. The height and width of the sound chamber probably won't vary much from the plans mentioned above in that the top of the sides will probably be 1 3/4" to 2" high and about 3/4" to 1" apart at the base. I've made only two longboxes. The sound chamber on the first was 7 1/2" long and the second one has a 9" long sound chamber. The first had elm sides and a poplar lid. I don't think that is a very good combination. The second has a cedar body and an oak lid but it isn't a saw and glue box. I drilled and chiseled out the sound chamber. I'm still playing around with different wood combinations just to see how the sound changes. Good luck on your longbox but be really careful as call making is highly addictive.
