We're heading off to the cottage with the entire family and a few of their friends in tow. The DH, the dog and myself are staying behind to have a nice quiet week. We figured the children are old enough to get off to school by themselves. I'm a little nervous about it, but the DH maintains that the only way I'll start to let go a little is if there is 250 miles between us. *G* So, have a great safe weekend my lovelies and calming vibes to all the moms and dads who are sending their spawn back to the hallowed halls. I need to get some color copies of a 2 sided brochure for our Library Friends group. Our local intown copy shop wants an exhorbitant amount. I've found some much cheaper pricing on the internet but have no idea as to quality etc. Any recommendations for an internet printer?? thanks!

question of the day: I periodically/randomly will hear a very high-pitched ringing in my ears. The closest thing it sounds like that others hear is the vague hum that the TV makes with no sound on. Anyway, once it starts, it will last a few hours, and then go away. this has happened since childhood. no other symptoms, just odd noise. It hadn't happened in A LONG time and then reappeared yesterday and today. Any thoughts? -- shellb, 15:56:02 08/27/08 Wed

The other day, M&M wrote about her dishwasher, the nylon racks and general discontent with the dang thing. Of course, this was after an in-depth discussion of Sorcha's chiggers (That was a hot topic!)

I wanted to post an update to my own complaint about my dishwasher -- the one leaving spots and film. I hadn't purchased the CountryTime lemonade mix kgp recommended, but I did try the vinegar suggested by shygal. And, miracle of miracles, the vinegar worked! My dishes and glasses appear new, shiny, and my DS2 even said they were "soft".

Thank you to kgp and shygal for their suggestions, and to M&M for revisiting the topic in the first place. Sorcha, I sure hope your chiggers have been exterminated and your limbs are in recovery. Let us know......

This morning while flipping channels we came across Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. My dd, age 8, has never seen this show. She did like the little bit we watched, it was going off. But I thought - wow I loved that show and several others . Right now ds, age 2 has been watching a dvd of Andy Griffith and seems to really like it, well both of them do. It's kinda cool to see them enjoy those old shows.

So, what shows did you watch as a kid and still like and do your kids like any of them?

Well, my soon-to-be 17-yr old DS has four impacted wisdom teeth, and oral surgery is scheduled for 11 September. The oral surgeon was wonderful, answering all of my DS's questions and addressing all his concerns. Mine, too. Now, it's been 30 years since I had oral surgery, and I don't remember much. Since we all know that Lallybroch is the repository of all knowledge, I'd love to hear your suggestions as to what I can do, mom-wise, to help my DS to be more comfortable. I've got the literature, and know about ice packs, spitting, and not drinking through a straw. We've got the medications covered. What else?

Mine is still hanging on....I dont know what the heck is going on with it. Anyway...when I was looking at the sale ads on Sunday I noticed some dishwashers are advertising nylon racks.

In every dishwasher I have had the racks have rusted out, Ive always thought it was from the salt in the water softners, but I don't really know what does it. I was just curious if anyone has the nylon racks and do they last longer without rusting out?

The one I have now has lasted longer than most because at each new rust spot I've bought some paint to paint over it.

- M&M, this is one of my current (numerous) complaints right now -- my dishwasher. I have an 11 year old Maytag with the nylon coated shelves. I had them replaced because the originals were rusting and breaking off, and leaving rust marks on my dishes. THe new ones are about a year old. A rust spot has just appeared and recently my dishes have been looking spotty and filmy -- even though I use the anti-spot liquid. We do not have softened water.         Apparently it's the acidity. Her dishwasher was a disaster when they moved into their current home and someone told her to try it. It worked and now she buys it exclusively for cleaning purposes, refuses to drink it. I like it extra tangy. (NT) -- kgp, 05:12:58 08/26/08 Tue
        
        What a coincidence. Last spring while visiting my mom, the hoarder, I found a can of this stuff that I remembered bringing home from a neighbor's house who was a sales rep for General Mills.         You can also use a couple of glugs of vinegar to clean the dishwasher. I did this -- just added some at the beginning of the cycle -- and it made a huge difference. No streaking or undissolved detergent. (NT) -- shy gal, 07:08:25 08/26/08 Tue

- LOL, I have an ancient roll out dishwasher, that I got from my brother, who got it from a neighbor eons ago. It's decrepit, ugly and half the prongs have fallen out. Every week we lose a few more. but it beats washing dishes by hand any day. If/when we move we'll consider a new(er) one so I'll have to pay attention to everyones suggestions. - Lucky me because apparently I have one now too and its not Ross but ....JAIME! This Jamie is a she and she is the new caregiver for my MIL. Last night I felt like crap told Ross to cook which he did --but did not bother to do dishes and I was too tired and sick to care. I keep waking up with BITES on my arms and legs! I noticed the first ones on Monday afternoon, and EVERY DAY I wake up with more. I have stripped the bedding, gone over the bed with a magnifying glass and can find NOTHING to indicate there are any kind of bugs. HELP! The bites are painless at first, but the day after they become very itchy and hurt a little bit. The first group I have had since MONDAY and they are not going away. I went to the Dr on Friday and they confirmed that they ARE bites of some kind, but couldn't tell me what or what to do aobut them, and they just gave me an antihistamine to help with the itching, which barely helps. I need my lallypeeps to give me some advice here!
