• Bronze Horseman Lovers....Paullina says her movie is going to be made, probably start filming at the end of this year..hopefully movie out end of 2014.     • I know what you mean..they never can compare. So much of a book is letting us readers hear and know what they are thinking, and that can never be in a movie. Something crucial is lost.   I really didn't think falling apart started this early. I'll be 49 in June, and I feel like I'm 80. Muscle aches, joint pain, no energy, no ambition. I put it off to my crazy ass schedule while I was in school and working nights, but I've been done with school since mid December, (although I still work nights) and seriously, I'm starting to wonder. Is it just age, or do any of you of a similar vintage feel this achy all the time? I eat sensibly, avoid processed crap, don't eat junk/fast food, gave up soda pop years ago, have a drink a few times a month, usually wine, and I don't smoke. I lost 40 pounds a couple of years ago but could stand to lose 40 more. :D I don't really exercise but have a very physical job, and can barely get moving in the mornings. Weekends have become recuperation time and I get nothing beyond basic cleaning/laundry done. I take prescription pain meds when I go to work or need to get something around the house done. Is it really downhill from here or could it be something else? I'm starting to wonder if I have fibro or something. My doctor blows it off to my schedule, but I need to have a check up soon and will be broaching the subject again.

    • Maria ... I'm thinking the biggest thing going against you is the working at night ... Your not getting 6-8 hrs sleep most nights ... I'm 55 and work 7 days a week and relate to all your saying but my body and mind cope with the stress and workload if it can rejuvenate over night .. Any chance you can get a day job and get your body clock back in sinc... Also drinking lots of water flushes out toxins that make you feel slow sluggish and just plain terrible ... Just my pov...   • I have way too many aches and pains - I thought it was commuting and then the stressful job - neither of which I have this year and still have the aches and pains! SO I think it is getting old before my time and the fact that I like you need to lose 40 pounds even though I like you lost 40 already! Damn weight! I too eat healthy and I do walk the dog every day but it is not heart pumping exercise and I just can't get motivated to exercise properly! I made my doctor take knee x-rays becausde my knees crack all the time- he found nothing other than thinning cartiledge - normal!   • I'm 45 and with every kilo I put on, the aches and pains get worse. I think it's a combination of not enough sleep and too much weight. A friend told me these 15 kilos (30 pounds?)   • I am 54. Several years ago I lost 12 kilos, and I keep it off with lots of exercise, which I think is the key. I don't get enough sleep either, probably (go to bed 10:30-11:00 and up at 5:10) but I run for 1/2 hour 4 mornings a week, do weights once and ride an exercise bike for an hour twice. I eat well, and keep the portion size small, which I think is very very important. My aches and pains are exercise related and respond to stretching.   • I'm 54 and I've been more active this past two years than ever. I don't feel old (yet) although I do ache but I put that down to the exercise. I think it sounds like it might be fibro or something. A friend of mine, the same age as me had your symptoms and she's been diagnosed with Fibro. Might be worth getting checked.   • Maria, it could be so many things. First, have you told your doctor all about your joint aches and pains. when I finally did about 6 years ago (when I was 47 is when I started feeling like you), she had me do test and I found out I had arthritis in my back, degenerattive disk disease, etc. I think it could age related, but you need to rule out these things before you can take steps to alleviate your discomfort. Are you perimenopausal? I read somewhere, and I think it's true, that magnesium helps sleep. I take it in the morning with my calcium and notice I sleep very well. I know you don't like exercise, but I also find out I sleep much better with 30 minutes of walking on a treadmill, exercise bike, squates, lunges. I mix it up. You don't have to do a lot. Also that exercise help alleviate little aches in your back. So my advice is 1) go to the doctor for tests. 2) work in some exercise at least 3-4 days a week 3) consume some magnesium (NT) -- conmama, 05:05:33 03/18/13 Mon
  • I had all those symptoms and more and doctors could find nothing wrong with me. After my physical and blood work they said to keep doing exactly what I'm doing. I think that will be my last visit to a doctor who isn't a naturopath. I have since, as you know from Facebook, been treating myself for candida overgrowth, which is a very common problem these days and has all of those symptoms and more. My joint pain is gone, my energy levels have picked up, although I also have adrenal fatigue due to years of stress from my business, so I still feel a definite energy slump after I'm good and stressed about something. But so many of my symptoms - joint and muscle pain, brain fog, irrational anger and mood swings, slight dizziness, panic attacks, clumsiness, bloating, acne and skin problems - have disappeared after 5 months on the candida diet. >>> -- Reilly, 05:42:55 03/18/13 Mon

  • That's how I was feeling and I thought it was normal - until I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.   I've only had to wait for 2 books, however I've read Outlander 4 times and the other books 3 times each. I've only read the last one once. I found the series 7 years ago.
  
  To enjoy a new book, I know I need to be completely immersed in the Jamie/Claire world. However, I don't want to reread it all, but yet I feel I need to. It's so easy to forget so many details of the story, but I do remember so much and I'm a little tired of re reading those parts. The personalities do come alive again, though.

  • I definitely do a re-read of the last book prior to the release of a new one, just to refresh my "old" memory of all the cliffhangers. I have read the entire Outlander series at least 5 times and read the books in between others I'm currently reading. I'm due for a Voyager re-read in the very near future.   • I discovered Outlander in the spring of 2009 and read the whole series and listened to them again on audiobooks before Echo was released that fall. I had them on more or less constant repeat for a couple of years, listening to them during my commute and on long trips. The last year or so, I've just kept up with the new novellas, stories, and SP.   • My Merle Norman makeup lady. I used to think Merle Norman was for old ladies..(well, maybe that what I am now). However, a stunning 38 year old neighbor had some makeup on that I really liked and she said she got it at Merle Norman and gave me the name of the artist. I usually have never had good luck or like how department store artist's do my makeup. I went and LOVE her. She dispelled some myths I've been reading for years. Taught me how to do my eye makeup..and for the first time in decades my DH actually said, "i really like how your doing your eye makeup" as we were heading out for an evening.         • It probably has as much to do with the artist as anything...but maybe they teach the same techniques nationwide. I love the skin colored pencil you put on your bottom waterline...that really makes your eyes bigger. You have to practice quite a bit with the liner. I have to admit I fake it a bit. i use the liner from the inside about 3/4 of the way, then use a black pencil for the rest and the tail. I then use the liner to sort of go over it a little.   • A couple of months ago I was invited to participate in a study for Botox, this is a new strain that uses far less product and gives better results. Now, normally I would say no thanks, while looking younger would be nice there is a limit and Botox crosses it but they got me at a weak moment - I was feeling drab and old. I don't mind my crow's feet but I have worry lines on my forehead and they really age me. Anyway I said yes. And wow, what a difference. Ick! The shoe was recently on the other foot (no pun intended). He had outpatient surgery....on his foot, no less....last week, and while he was under, I had to fill a couple of prescriptions. Sooooo, I had to go through his wallet to locate his health insurance card for the pharmacy. First time I ever had to do something like that in over 30 yrs. of marriage (beyond taking some bills when he knew ahead of time that I would be doing so). Major weird feeling. Needless to say, we respect each other's privacy. Anona, do you go through your DH's private space, be it the wallet, his dresser or nightstand junk drawer (they all have one), etc?   So, what do you all think of the new Penny's. I have to say I haven't bought anything there since it changed. I went around Xmas to take a look and was sort of getting confused by all the stores within a store concept. There didn't seem to be much merchandise. i went over to the shoes and thought "where are all the displays". I don't know. I guess I haven't given it a fair shake yet and wandered thru more than a few seconds. I think they've lost their core customer, or maybe was trying to just get rid of their core customer. I don't like the catalogs either.

  As we are previous Carnival guests, Carnival last week offered us cruises starting at $70 per person per day. Not a bad deal, considering it includes travel expenses, entertainment, hotel, and meals! Today, with 2 new disasters on their hands, I suspect they may again make a similar offer, or even a cheaper one. Would you take it?

  • With all the recent episodes, plus others that have happened in the past, I would not take a Carnival cruise when there are other cruise companies who seem to have a better handle on ship maintenance and upkeep.     • First, I wouldn't chance it with Carnival right now. I have been on one cruise (Royal Carribbean) 4 years ago on springbreak with 2 teen boys. 7 nights. I have to say it was the least enjoyable vacation I've had. The ship was incredible, but I just felt stuck during the days not at a port. I really didn't enjoy seeing just water everywhere, I thought it was boring. I don't like laying at the pool all day. For some reason i can lay at the beach all day and just look at the water. I guess I can go take a walk and people watch, look for shells, go back to the condo. i agree..a river cruise is more my style I think...to be able to see things along the shoreline. I have to say my favorite part of the cruise was the evening. cocktails, seeing the sunset, the magnificient dinners then shows. I don't know if I'll ever cruise again...we like to explore too much.   • We've been on 6 cruises. One Carnival - back in 93 and the other 5 (in the last 6 years) have all been on Royal Caribbean. I wouldn't go on Carnival again.   • Having been in the travel industry for over 20 years, I've cruised on a few. I cruised on Carnival twice -- once it was a prize and once it was because the Malt Shop Memories cruise that I wanted to take was on that line. Both times I saw exactly what I expected to see. They operate cheap; the food is not as good as the average diner; the owners have always been guerilla marketers and will practically give away a cruise to fill a berth. They are the Bucket Shop of cruise lines. What I will say is that the crew, especially the cabin stewards, is always the best. The young people from various parts of the world work very hard to make everyone happy. I had an oceanview cabin with a lousy bed, no space to move around (normal for cruise ships and Carnival has about the largest cabins around), but the cabin steward was fantastic.   Help!!!! I have two smoke detectors which were installed when my home was built in 1999. One is upstairs, one downstairs, both are hardwired into the electrical system plus have a battery backup. The downstairs one started to chirp, or beep if you prefer, about once every thirty seconds yesterday. Well, it's that time to change the batteries anyway, so change them I did. No help at all. In fact, after changing the battery in the one upstairs, it started to beep as well. Took the battery out of the one upstairs and it is no longer beeping, but the downstairs one is still chirping away every thirty seconds, with or without its battery. So, I then removed the downstairs smoke detector and unplugged it. Problem solved? NO!!! The beep is coming from inside the wall where the alarm's wiring is hanging out. What??? How can this be? Anyone have any suggestions, or do I call an electrician (or maybe an exorcist)?

  • our house was built in 2003 and they hardwired the alarm into the house too. We have battery backup we change once or twice a year but the alarm in the basement beeps constantly too. We had to disconnect it. Couldn't afford the electrician. My FIL who actually has a degree as an electrician couldn't figure out what was the matter. The alarm still works when it isn't in the ceiling but doesn't beep every 30 seconds. When you attach it back to the ceiling it beeps, even 2 years later. PITA!! Good luck!!   Over the weekend, I tried to book a flight online. There were issues with the credit card info not going through, so I called the cc company (an airline cc). They had put the charge on "hold" b/c of possible fraud. Okay, I understand somewhat (but this cc company has p!ssed us off on more than one occasion). Anyway, the rep supposedly fixed the problem. I tried to book again several times, and no luck. I called the airline directly and wason hold for almost a half hour, so I gave up. A while later, DH received a vm from the cc company about the possible fraud. He called and supposedly the rep took care of the hold. I tried again and there were still issues. I went online today and same f'n thing, but I thought it may be a website issue, so I called the airline and guess what? The card was denied. I called the cc company AGAIN, b*tched them out, and the rep reset the account, then waited while I booked the flight online. I now have my ticket, but I am beyond livid. I am planning to write a letter of complaint and will threaten to drop the card.

  I used to just have a gyn, but then about 12 years ago decided to go with a GP so she could help me with non-gyn issues. Well, she's retiring..boohoo..I just loved her. She said the other docs in her practice aren't taking on new patients, which I find odd. They are in my insurance as accepting new patients. She started with this new practice about a year ago (used to have her own), and I could tell she didn't really like it (or maybe them?) Who knows. So...now I have to find someone else. If you go do a gyn, do they also help you out with non-gyn issues? Just wondering what everyone else does.

  • I have both a primary care physician and a ob/gyn - only see the gyn doc once a year for a pap (which they can't ever seem to do without hurting me - which means I never want to have it done), and for my HRT cream scrip. See my primary for most everything else. And also see a GI doc due to ongoing problems there with my Crohn's Disease.   • I have an gynecologist (who was my OB and delivered my kids) and a family physician. I see my gyn for female issues and my FP for illnesses. I also have a cardiologist and a endocrinolgist and a gastroenterologist. Yeah, I'm a mess. :) My girls see a pediatrician who is with our FP's office, which is nice.   • I saw a 'women's PA-C' for years until I was pregnant. Went to her for everything. Then I saw the OB/Gyn she was affiliated with. After that I switched to a different OB/Gyn for the female stuff and have been seeing a different PA-C (same first name) for general visits because the clinic is close to work. My OB said since I've got an IUD now and my paps are normal, I don't have to come back for 3 years. So I will probably continue seeing the PA-C unless I need 'female' stuff.   • We don't usually see a Gynae here in Australia unless it's for something specific like you want to have a hysterectomy, for instance. You can't just call up and make an appointment with a Gynae without a referral letter from your GP.   My mom was telling me about the daughter of a friend who attends a college here in Maryland. She said they have to remove all their stuff from the dorm rooms during winter and spring break because that is when the rooms are cleaned. I'm talking about removing everything - bedding, clothes, books, etc. She said most kids put their stuff in a local storage facility. I have never heard of this, have never seen any of my friends with kids in college mention this, so I thought I would ask here. This makes no sense to me, especially for out-of-state students who wouldn't have anyone to help them.

Otherwise the university is not responsible for anything not there when student returns. This was inconvenient except that we don't move furniture as those items are provided.   We have two cats. They are 12 years old and have been living in this house and garden since they were 4 weeks old. My SIL has an Australian shepherd dog who is 4 years old. She got him as a puppy but we lived abroad when she got him and he only got to know our house, us and our cats when we came back and he was already a year. This dog lives with two cats, whom he grew up with and totally accepts, but he hates any other cats and chases or attacks them. We also used to have chickens and SIL's dog once killed one. After that, she kept him leashed when she came here - which was a shame, really, because our place is huge and he could use the run. Anyway, we don't have chickens anymore and my SIL moved from a house to an apartment, so she's here way more often and probably will be every other w-e in spring and summer. The dog isn't leashed anymore when she comes and has the run of the garden and the ground floor of the house. Which means we have to keep the cats upstairs when he's here. Starsky is fine with that, but Hutch needs to be outside, too, so once he gets out he can't come back. As I said - lots of space, a barn, trees, the neighbour's barn... But he takes longer and longer to come back to the house once the dog is gone. This time it's been over 40 hours and he still isn't back. I am not comfortable with this situation. I want our cats to be able to come back to their house and their food whenever they want to. Is there a way to make the dog understand that this is the cats' home and he is not allowed to chase them? A way to train him? And another problem: We are considering taking two new kittens this spring and SIL wondered if we should keep the dog here for a week then, so that he could get used to them. What do you think?

  • It's in an Australian Shepherd's insticts to chase. If he was fine with your cats when he lived with them but is no longer good with them since he's moved and not in constant interaction with them, then he no longer is good with cats. It comes down to the dog or the cats. The dog is doing what comes naturally and the cat most likely feels like it's not his home and is staying away longer. He might choose to not come home again. Either have an area fenced in for the dog when he's there and the cats can stay away from that area or you need to keep the dog on a leash or not visit at all. Probably not what you want to hear. He lives with my SIL's two cats at her home (first a house, now an apartment) and has no problem with those cats. When my niece moved back in with SIL, with her own cat, he tried to attack that cat for nearly 4 months and then barely tolerated her. I suggest keeping the cats inside while he visits and upstairs during the day and let them have the run of the house inside at night and have him confided to a crate or his owner's room.   • Thank you! Yes, seeing DH's sister means seeing her dog. He's her baby. And when he's leashed all day, he's miserable (and makes everyone else miserable, too). SIL usually spends the week-end. Our cats' territory is our 2 acres, so I think they would be very unhappy being fenced in. But I like Lady Elizabeth's suggestion very much. The cats can stay upstairs during the day and be outside at night. SIL can take the dog out on a leash at night and in the morning, until the cats are back home. I ended up sending DS1 out to search for Hutch yesterday, he was in the neighbour's barn. (For those who followed my cheese-lady post below: DS just came home after a year abroad and obviously we omitted telling him that the neighbour's wife has left and been replaced.   Four months after his wife left, my neighbour has now moved his mistress and her children in. We used to have a good relationship with the (former) couple, we were not friends, but we had an amicable relationship, would meet at other neighbours' social events and have a drink together once in a while, at their house or ours. I always found him easier to get along with than her, she was very introverted and did not seem interested in a friendship with me at all. He was in the Army and gone a lot. When he retired two years ago at the age of 45, he apparently missed whatever "action" he got while he was still active duty, also his new job (home-inspector in real estate) made him meet quite a lot of newly divorced women. He cheated on his wife, several times (as we have been told by the wife). The last - and apparently serious - mistress was the cheese lady from the market (I don't buy cheese at the market, so I didn't know her). The wife totally fell apart, he moved out, she asked for a divorce and proceeded to break down repeatedly, including a couple of suicide scares. All the neighbours stepped up, we went to see her, supported her, talked with her, for months. She recovered (kind of), bought a place in her home region (4 hours away) and moved there in October. We haven't seen her since, but I'm Facebook friends with her and I think this - quite superficial - "friendship" means more to her than it does to me. (We have never been close, all my attempts at becoming friends when they moved in were rejected and she was not there for me when I had a depression after our return from two years abroad. When she needed me, I was there because I was here - now that she's away, I don't feel I owe her much.)
  Four months have passed, Mr Neighbour (who is basically a nice guy apart from the - huge - fact that he betrayed his wife) has been living with the cheese lady all this time and last week-end he moved back into his house, bringing her and her three teenagers with him. I was vaguely introduced to her at the market last month (he was at the cheese stall with her and saw me walk past, I didn't even see him at first) and we only talked about bus schedules to the middle school. Now I don't know how to act. Were they completely new neighbours, I would invite them over for a drink (apéritif invitations are very common in France, people come over around 7 pm, they get drinks and nibbles and leave around 9 pm to go and have their dinner at home), but this feels weird. Her kids must be around our kids' ages and it's not their fault what happened, so I feel we should be welcoming. We have valued a good neighbourly relationship with the man for nearly 10 years, DH and he help each other out regularly. But I do not feel comfortable having the "mistress" in my house, out of some kind of "loyalty" to my ex-neighbour, the wife. At least not yet. We are all invited at another neighbour's on the 16th, but we don't know if they/she will be coming, they haven't rsvp-ed yet, and the kids aren't invited anyway. The fact that we only know her as "the cheese-lady from the market" also adds just a tiny layer of ridicule on top of this embarrassing situation... What would you do? Be welcoming like to any other new neighbour and invite them over? Wait and see? Stay loyal to the wife and shun them? ...?

  • I would be friendly if I met her on the street, but not overly effusive. Could you invite the whole family to some sort of thing and invite at least one other neighbour family? That way you're maintaining your already established ties with the dh and kids, you're including the new lady, and, by including other neighbours you're both giving others a chance to establish socal relations and keeping it broader, not an intimate thing for only 2 couples. If things evolve from here so that you become close I suggest you don't go out of your way to tell ex-wife, but don't keep it a secret either. It would be extra nice if your kids could ivite hers to something, or just to come over - they are feeling triple pressure (not just moving to a new place, their mom has a new serious man AND they're moving to his ex's place, sort of replacing her) plus they have normal teen angst, they will need some extra understanding and having neighbour kids who are welcoming (but cool) will be a big help.   I have a friend with a slipped disk in her back that is pressing on a major nerve plexus and causing intense pain for over a year following an injury (300lb patient falling and she caught them). She's been on painkillers, had nerve block injections, PT, and last week saw a surgeon to discuss removal and fusion. Because of the location (afraid he might sever nerves) and too much nerve damage already, he's reluctant to operate at this time and only gave her a 50% chance that it would alleviate her pain. He wants to try a nerve stimulator and if it works, surgically implant it. Does anyone have any practical info on this? Know anyone it works for, etc? I've done some online research and reports seem to be very ambiguous. She has gone from an active 40-something to someone who can't even stand up long enough to cook dinner or ride in a car more than 20 minutes. She just wants her life back.

  • This is almost my situation except I had the spinal fusion done in 2009. I still had terrible pain after the surgery. Last Summer, I did something to my lower back. I just made a slight twist and something popped/cracked and I've been in agony since. I've had tests done and my dr sent me to a pain specialist. I'm on heavy duty pain meds, walk with a cane and can't stand for really any length of time and can barely walk. The pain specialist wants me to get the Nerve Stimulator, as well. He did a steroid injection and I think it made it worse. I've done research on the Boston Scientific Smooth Wave. The reviews are mixed about the whole thing. You do get a week to 10 day trial, first, before they surgically implant it. Before the trial you have to see a psychologist which ins companies mandate. I'm not sure I want to go through it.   Does anyone use one and can you tell me pros & cons? My old home PC is almost 10 years old, it runs but really really s...l...o...w... I thought if I got a good backup drive, so that I knew all my photos, songs, etc. were safe, I would try deleting everything off it. Then reinstall windows and hopefully it would be a little more speedy. I sent DS into OfficeDepot last night and he reported on a Toshiba Canvio and I think a Passport but I can't remember. They both can store 1T of data and ranged from $85 to $120. Ideally the gizmo would be small enough that I could store in our fire box in case of emergency. Thanks friends!

  • You can get an external hard drive - I use a Passport and it's easy. But (you may not want to hear this) you are never going to make a 10-year-old computer fast, unless you pull and replace the processor, RAM, etc. There are some fantastic deals out there on PCs and when we buy ours, we know they're to last 3-4 years. The real need is for a backup though, I've got some pics and other stuff stored on CDs but it's a hassle to burn/store them and I don't know how to backup the iTunes that way.   Today I was waiting at the auto repair shop and I was the only one in the waiting room along with the manager who was busy.
  The TV was set on a talk program and I was crocheting and keeping an eye on it. A man came in with his DD about 10 and the kid went over and started flipping thru the channels until she got what she wanted to watch. Can't stand Sponge Bob. I was very tempted to say Yes I was watching that, please put it back. Or. Yes I was watching that but I don't mind if you change it. But I decided to keep the peace and said nothing. I thought it was better not to take the chance on a hissy fit or glare from the dad on his parenting style. Would you speak up or shut up?

  Has anyone tried that new Oila from Garnier? Do you like it? Does it cover grey? I need to colour my hair more often that normal and would love to have a more gentle product, I've tried Natural Instincts but didn't get the grey coverage I need. Olia is a bit more expensive than most other brands but only about $2, so it would be worth it if it works.

  • I use eSalon color. It is personalized and salon quality that you do yourself at home. You go online and answer questions about your hair and what your needs are (i.e. grey coverage, dryness, damage). They will ship it out to you as frequently/infrequently as you want. I do mine every 5 weeks. It costs more than store box color, but it is still a lot less than going to the salon. I like that I was able to have them tweak my original color choice to suit my preferences (I asked for darker and more copper). And I can attest that the grey coverage is great.   Did anyone catch the premier of Red Widow? We DVRd it and watched it last night. We really enjoyed it but, OMG, they dragged it out to two hours by inserting what seemed like at least 1 1/2 hours of commercials. Even fast-forwarding through them was totally annoying.
  
  Looking forward to the next episode. Hope they are able to sustain the action (and cut the commercial interruptions).
  
  By the way, was very disappointed that the husband (played by Anson Mount, the wonderful lead actor from Hell on Wheels) was killed off after just a few minutes. I hope they flash-back on him frequently.

  night? It got a good review in our newspaper. I haven't watched yet but have it on the DVR. I didn't realize it was done by the same person responsible for the Elizabeth movies and The Tudors. I'm looking forward to watching it since I like period pieces/dramas and being British it is, to an extent, my history.

  • I enjoy "period" series also. I watched the first episode of Vikings and it was ok. I think I have to give it some time to get used to the characters, etc. The one male lead reminds me of "Jax" from Sons of Anarchy.   How Many Of You Love This Movie!? I just saw it again, for the first time since it initially opened in the U.S. 28 years ago! This is where "Helena Bonham Carter Hair" began. (Whoever did their hair deserved an award. HBC alone could've been a full time job.) This was my introduction to HBC and her wonderful hair, D. D. Lewis and Judi Dench. And the delectable Julian Sands and Rupert Graves. And Florence, Italy and on and on. I couldn't help but pause to consider all the things that have happened in my life since I first saw it, and wish my mom and I could have caught it again, together. There is a wonderful blog about this version. It's easy to find, it's the only one.

  • My DH and I watched this together on a lazy rainy Sunday afternoon many decades ago...having no idea what it was about, just picked it up the local video store. It touched us both, it is such a lovely movie. I watched it again a couple of years ago, but still enjoyed it more the first time. I knew of HBC already from Miami Vice, she was the fiance of the white cop..can't remember his name. I remember thinking how delicate and lovely she was even then. I still think she is.   • Loved it way back when I rented it as a young college girl in the early 90s. It was the beginning of my anglophile days. I remember, though, being a little horrified by Julian Sands dangling bits. I was sheltered at the time, and I think maybe I had just watched Boxing Helena, so I found him a bit creepy. Maybe I still do. He always plays a very odd character very well. I just rewatched A Room With a View, recently, and it sure took me back to those young, innocent days. It is a lovely movie.     • At the time, everyone thought that her incredible hair in the movie was her real hair. She kept making period films, with more incredible hair, which seemed to validate this assumption. In fact, as HBC stated in an interview around the time of "Fight Club," she does not have that thick, wavy/curly Pre-Raphaelite hair. It was the work of perfectly integrated false hair pieces, done expertly. So, in her early professional career, she was known for her Pre-Raphaelite hair, beginning with "A Room With A View."
