My personal news just got worse. Not 12 hours after I wrote this email then our dog, a Shetland sheepdog named Gandalf, took suddenly acutely ill. He died at 11:00 a.m. EST today.
I now know why Kathryn Janeway loved dogs. I never really understood what Gandalf gave me until he was gone. He gave me the peace knowing that the world does indeed wait while you "waste" five minutes petting an animal.
God, I'm going to miss him. And my son didn't take the news well either. This house feels empty now. So empty.
