Subject: Please Write To L'Oreal Re Acquistion of The Body Shop

Please write to L'Oreal re their acquistion of The Body Shop. Join the Boycott is, for the moment, taking a wait and see position on this acquisition but expects L'Oreal to honor the demands of The Body Shop Petition. Full details below. Thank you.

As sent in by teach <**********@yahoo.com>

Friends,

L'Oreal is in the process of acquiring The Body Shop for $1.1billion. The Body Shop as many of you already know, has supported PLO causes including a "Palestinian right to return" to Israel. There are now over 2,500 signatures on The Body Shop Petition.

If you are one of the many friends of Israel who has not yet done so, please add your name to the Petition and pass this letter on to your friends. Thank you.

While L'Oreal's acquisition raises the possibility of an improvement in the behaviour of The Body Shop, it is important to keep in mind that Anita Roddick, who (with her husband Gordon) founded and owns a large portion of The Body Shop, will stay on as a consultant in the new company. Anita Roddick is calling the new arrangement "a partnership".

There is also no guarantee that L'Oreal, though originally founded the Bettencourt-Meyer family, will purge The Body Shop of its anti-Israel bias. The family now holds only a minority share of the company stock. L'Oreal is largely owned by its many other stockholders including the Nestle Company.

A 1996 book by Michael Bar Zohar indicates some unsavoury anti-Israel influence at L'Oreal too (Bitter Scent: The Case Of L'Oreal, Nazis, And The Arab Boycott).

Animal rights activists are up in arms over the acquisition claiming that L'Oreal's use of animals for testing should make The Body Shop shareholders oppose the move.

This deal is far from done.

Please write to L'Oreal at bdautresme@loreal.com, media@us.loreal.com, InfoOffice@us.loreal.com, ocouturier@fr.loreal.com, comms@uk.loreal.com

and CC your letter to jointheboycott@mailcity.com

to make them aware of The Body Shop's support for PLO causes and to ask L'Oreal to have The Body Shop satisfy the demands of the Petition, namely, to apologize, to revoke the award to the group advocating a "Palestinian right to return" and disavow the PLO, and to make a substantial donation to Israeli victims of PLO terrorism.

Below is a short sample letter for you to copy, and append your name, or if you prefer, write your own. My letter is at http://www.voy.com/119804/585.html

Thank you. David.

TO THE L'OREAL COMPANY:

I want to make you aware of The Body Shop's support for PLO causes.

If your acquisition of The Body Shop is successful, I ask you to please have The Body Shop apologize to the many friends of Israel it has offended, revoke its award of $75,000 to an extremist anti-Israel group that advocates a "Palestinian right to return" and disavow the PLO and its aims, and make a substantial donation to Israeli victims of PLO terrorism. Thank you.

Sincerely,
