To the Administration of the Body Shop,

I am very disturbed that you have presented an award as follows:

From Israel - National Committee for the Defense of the Rights of the Internally Displaced is a self-help and advocacy advisory service, and a network for all community-based organizations campaigning for the right of return of internally displaced Palestinians.

My friends and relatives are extremely disturbed at this award because it speaks of great ignorance to the issues related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

First, are you aware that there are between three to four million people claiming to be refugees from Israel? Are you aware that most of the people did not originate in Israel, and are unable to find homes in other Arab countries?
Are you aware that Israel is the size of the state of New Jersey, or less than one-twentieth the size of California, and that the absorption of such numbers would destroy the Jewish state?
Are you aware that there are already one million two hundred thousand Palestinian Arabs living in Israel as citizens, people who are the descendants of those who did NOT choose to leave the country during the war of 1948?
Yes, Arab Palestinians comprise approximately 20% of the Israeli population.

Perhaps when you issued this award, you didn't realize that you were promoting the destruction of Israel by demographics and Arab agenda. Perhaps you didn't realize that the Palestinian Authority, in partnership with the surrounding Arab countries are maintaining refugee status for the Palestinians for the purpose of using it as a political tool against Israel.

Are you also aware that Yassir Arafat was listed by Forbes magazine as the seventh wealthiest despot in the world, because he has not improved the living conditions of his people and instead socked money away in Swiss and other banks?

Dear Customer,

The Body Shop does not have a position on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

The four winners of the 2002 Human Rights Award, including the National Committee for the Defence of the Rights of the Internally Displaced, were chosen by an independent jury, including international human rights experts, for being the best examples of peaceful grassroots activism on the issue of housing within a human rights framework, regardless of their religion, ethnicity or nationality.

The Body Shop supports the integrity of the Award jury and the robustness of the selection process but played no direct role in choosing the winners themselves, other than providing four of the 14 jury members, of which the Chair has always been an independent member.

The Body Shop is committed to the issue of human rights in a number of ways. For example, through The Body Shop Foundation, the company gives support to a broad range of small grassroots organisations, which are at the forefront of positive social and environmental change. This support is given for people of all races, gender, nationality and ethnic groups, without prejudice, and based on criteria including a project's demonstration of commitment, vision and sound management.

Dear Body Shop Administrators,

Was this a form letter?

I would like to speak with someone.

I am the Executive Director of a very large activist group, and am compelled by this award that you have issued, to let people know that your business has taken this stand, realizing (or not caring about) the danger to the small state of Israel.

Your company must have given thought to this award.
They must have weighed all the various pieces of information, some of which I listed in my first letter, below.

You must have decided that that the (approximately) 600,000 Arabs who left Israel in 1948 (and are now claiming to have become 3 to 4 million) deserve the same rights as the Arabs who remained in Israel and became full citizens of Israel.

You must have decided that there should be no Jewish state in a region of 22 Arab states. Or, perhaps you dont believe in the viability of another Arab state... the proposed Palestiian state.... as the 23rd Arab country.

Can someone please speak to me about these issues?

I am with the organization StandWithUs, in a position of leadership, and am about to send out this information about your company. We have thousands of members all over the world who would be anxious to know about this.
