TO THE EDITORIAL BOARD OF THE ANTI-ISRAEL LA TIMES

On 11/11/04, page 7, on the subject of Mahmoud Abbas in 2003, your paper stated:

"Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon undercut him as well, denying Abbas any important political achievements, such as a release of Palestinian prisoners."

That is a flat out lie. Israel released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, a move that was reported in the LA Times on 8/7/03, page 4, "Israel freed hundreds of Palestinian prisoners".

Since then, you have grossly distorted the record by repeating over and over that Israel failed to make any "major" or "meaningful" concessions to Abbas, and today 2/9/05, page 11, that Israel refused to grant Abbas "any substantial achievements".

The truth is that Israel made a number of major and substantial concessions in order to help Abbas, in addition to its releasing hundreds of prisoners.

Israel removed settlement outposts and roadblocks, handed out thousands of work visas, and handed over territory to the Palestinian Authority in Bethlehem and parts of Gaza, all to help Abbas. They did so despite ongoing PLO terrorism. These moves too were reported in the LA Times (e.g. 6/10/03, "Israel Pulls Up Settlement Stakes", p.12; 7/3/03, "The Hand-Over Of Bethlehem Fuels Optimism", front page; etc.).

Israel's generous and brave initiatives were met by a series of horrendous Palestinian suicide bombings which, by August 2003, had again blown apart any hopes for peace.

Your reporting on Israel is blatantly biased, inaccurate, and dishonest and evidences an attitude that only Israel is required to make concessions.

Southern Californians are being misled. I urge all subscribers to call 1-800-252-9141 and cancel their LA Times.

Proud to be a boycotter of your anti-Israel propaganda.
