Subject: repowering 40' hull #7

Has anyone done any research into what new engine would be the most fuel efficient and quite. Last year I purchased hull #7. It had been on the hard in Avalon, Catalina Island California for 15 years. It doesn't have an engine. I think I will be ready for a new engine and transmission in June. Please give me your thoughts on the subject. I am retired and my passion is working on this old boat.
Gratefully

We re-powered Sea Trek with a Yanmar 56 and it replaced the old Perkins with little fuss. I have had several engines over the years and although the Perkins was a great engine the Yanmar is by far our hands down favorite. It will push us at about hull speed if the conditions are decent. Dropped right in on the old engine bed.

We purchased Tivoli without an engine. Did a lot of research and decided on a Westerbeke 64. The engine is fuel efficient, has low RPMs (max is 2600) and is fairly quiet. I turn a 19x15 prop, it easily pushes her to hull speed at 1800 RPMs in calm water. I wanted the bigger engine because we are planning on going from CT to the Caribbean via the ICW and wanted the power, it is a heavy boat.
