Subject: Repowering an M-32

I am looking into repowering our boat. I was wondering what engines others have used and what their experiences were. I am thinking of doing this myself so any info on difficulties with replacement engines would be helpful. I'd also like info on what auxilary equipment you used such as mufflers and alternators. Thanks.

The previous owner replaced the Perkins in my M32 "Promise" with a 28HP Beta Marine diesel. It was a marinized Kubota. I can't tell you how difficult it was to install as he had it done by the west coast rep (in MDR) for Beta. I had the boat for 5 years and I can say that it was a great engine. Plenty of power (3 blade prop but I don't remember the pitch/size). Very smooth engine and the maintenance items are easy to get to. It even had a built-in oil change pump.
They did a very clean installation. The only wrinkle was that since the new engine weighed less the boat was down by the bow some. This caused water to collect on both sides of the cockpit. This was not a problem underway, only when in the slip.
