A "symetrical" spinnaker was part of Murre's original, 1972, sail compliment, so the builder must not have feared the wooden masts too much.

I've only flown it a couple times, so can't tell you too much about it, except that it is by no means beyond the pale of your Mariner, and that each time I've had it up (singlehanded), it wants to tow me toward the closest exiting tanker like it is a team of wild huskies and Murre is a sled.

I don't know what the dimensions are, but California Dreamer (M31) on the MOA site has some photos w/her spinnaker up. It does look a little smaller than modern spinnaker's for same size boat.
