This sounds exactly like mine. Except for this: the "neck" is NOT welded to the tank. A female fitting is welded to the tank and 2" brass pipe is threaded into that. You SURE the whole piece is welded in? It's old and corroded and may be deceiving you??? Are you looking at the area from underneath, or through the cockpit floor, or through the fill?

As to the frame that keeps you from getting at the neck, are you removing the tank after yanking the engine or after removing the cockpit floor? It's one or the other, no?

If you are leaving the cockpit floor in place, don't touch the frame but try to cut the neck out from underneath (it's junk anyway). If you are removing the cockpit floor to get the tank out, the frames have to come out too. That should "solve" your problem.

Hmm. How was that?
