Subject: Cabin top removal

One of my first projects will be replacing the cabin top. I read in the archives about a rod running through the turned posts inside the boat. I'm guessing these have to be loosened from the bottom and then pulled out the top. Is this correct? Are there any more little suprises waiting for me under the paint and glass? Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just removed mine. First you have to locate the area above the rods and remove the fiberglass and putty. The starbord side is just a stud and the port side is the rod. I could not loosen the bottom so I picked up the top and cut thr rod. It needs replaced anyway.

We had a tough time removing the cabin sides because both wood screws AND ring nails were used as fasteners.

Specifically there were ring nails holding the cabin top edges down. Some nails go into the support, some into the edge of the cabin side ply. So, just a note to go slow as it can be tricky to dissasemble w/out doing damage to other good wood.
