Subject: Yacht Transportation

Hi everyone
I'm want to get Gypsy, my mariner 31 from the Carribean to the UK.
She was dismasted in Hurricane Ivan in Grenada so is without masts and rig.. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get her back at a low cost, or had any experience of yacht shipping?
Would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks, Suzie.

Hi Suzie.

The only Yacht Transport that I've heard of that can accomplish anything like that, is the type that the boat sails into and then the water is pumped out and the boats are left on cradles for the entire transpot. I think the only problem in your case, is that these cargo ships don't service the area you're in. I know for a fact they do Miami/Ft.Lauderdale to......whatever, and a trip to England would be close to $10,000.

If the hull is not damaged badly, can you re-rig the boat and sail it back ??? Are the sails in good shape still ???

Give us some details.

Bill

Hi Bill
Thanks for your thoughts. The hull is not badly damaged, however re rigging and sailing it back is not a feasible option for me as I am 3 months pregnant!
It would be such a shame to have to sell her but unfortunately my options are very limited at present especially as the next hurricane season will be upon us in June. You can never rely on anyone to secure your boat as you would your own!
Suzie.

Email me some info about the boat's condition if possible. Photos ???

Bill
