The keel bolts on the M40 have nuts on both ends. The ones at the bottom of the keel are covered by cement. I would recommend checking them if you have a chance as the ones on my 1968 were only being held together by the corrosion between the nuts and the bolts.

Thanks for the heads up. What was your solution? Did you completely replace the bolts or sister them or weep bitterly and keep sailing (GRIN)?

Thanks in Advance!

It wouldn't hurt to find them at the bottom of the keel and checking them, to make sure they're intact. On the other hand, if the keel/hull joint looks tight (no seperation, bilge water leaks, etc) use the boat for another season, but plan on having it checked in the very near future. Definitely, before any long cruising trek.

I had new keel bolts fabricated based on the previous dimensions. I didn't want to revisit that part of the boat in my lifetime. Any decent metal fabricator should be able to make them for you. I'd be happy to get you them of the shop that made mine but I'm not sure if that would be helpful unless you're somewhere near the "Biggest Little" (Rhode Island).
