Subject: Anchor snubber?
In reply to: Steve Cox 's message, "bobstay" on - Sunday - 07/ 9/06 - 11:29pm

I seem to remember Speedy on Cherub mentioning once that his bobstay attached to the hull via a ring. I could be wrong.

Here's another option: when anchored some folk like to snub their anchors to the boat at the bobstay fitting. To do this you'd shackle a 10 foot (+/-) length of nylon rope to that ring, then lead the bitter end back on deck where it sits when not in use. After you've dropped hook and have let out as much chain as you like, you'd bend the bitter end of the snubber onto the chain w/a rolling hitch and toss it over the side.

I've never tried it, but from what I've read... Advantage: it gets the chain out of the way of bobstay. Dissadvantage: those who think this is a bad idea dislike all the force of a pitching boat being applied to one spot more or less below the water line.

Anyway, that's one possibility.
