Subject: DEEP WATER--Movie Recommendation

If you are a fan of the story of the first Golden Globe Race in 1969 (now called the Vendee Globe)--round the world, single handed, non stop--then I recommend a documentary Jo gave me for Christmas called DEEP WATER.

It is specifically the story of Donald Crowhurst and his trimeran, Teignmouth Electron, the very last entrant to start that very first race attempt, and it captures with amazing clarity the pressures he faced on that most fateful voyage.

Beyond some very poignant interviews with his family and other racers, there is rare and stunning photographic footage of his boat and also that of Bernard Moitessier's Joshua under way on the high seas.

If you've ever heard of this first race or read any of the score of books that have been written about it, I recommend this documentary.

DEEP WATER
IFC Films, 2006
93 minutes
English

Available on DVD.

I saw this documentary. What an amazing, moving story. Growing up in england I'd heard all about Francins Chischester et al but never Crowhurst. The saddest part was the interviews with his son.
