Subject: Get the lead out (600# found in bilge)

Found approx. 600 lbs of lead ingets in the forward part of my bilge, cribbed in with wood under the fiberglass upside down U sole support.

Anyone else find this in their Mariner 31/32????

I really don't think this came spec from the manufacturer. Now thats alot of weight, yes 600lbs of lead stacked up (when first discovered I knew it was gold, but when washed of it's grime it turned out to be lead, bummer). The boat used to be named Zombie Woof, now currently named Cool Change, hull #94. Anybody have any info or history or a good reason to keep it in the bilge, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks Wes

Two reasons:

a) The previous owner placed them there to off-set the bow-listing found in Mariners with empty tankage or in a provisionless mode

OR

b) he just wanted some additional ballast.

My 2 cents......
a)if you're still using the fuel tank under the cockpit, remove them.
b)if you're not, then keep them, to help with the bow-listing so it doesn't drive you nuts.

Are you sure they are not IRON pigs ??? If they are rusting away in the bilge......get rid of them !!!

Bill Thanks a ton for the info.

I am a bit confused on the bow listing thing. What does that mean?

Definately Lead pigs, no rust but love to collect bilge grime and smell. They are currently out of the boat, a friend is holding onto the pigs until we sail her again to make sure we don't make a bad choice.

Thanks again
Wes

Bow Listing = Leaning forward a little :-)
