Subject: Mariner 31

I am looking at several Mariner 31s for sale and find a common problem with dry rot in the cabin sides and deck and coach roof around the hatches. Has anyone dealt with these proplems and how did the repairs go. I love the boat but would like to talk to someone who has redone one. Appreciate any info re: this boat. Thanxs

Yes, dry rot is a problem, or mare accurately, water getting areas it shouldn’t and can't dry out. I’m currently in the process of installing new counter tops and I’ve encountered allot of it (gangway bulkhead). Of course, the only solution is remove all rotten and replace. I’m replacing any I can with teak or marine ply, in that it holds up well against wetness. The best advice I would have is, look to see if you can determine where the water came from, and how to stop that. “Water always wins”.
