Will post any new info I get. I'm trying to get wood here in Grenada, at the moment the choices are pitch pine(probably too heavy) or cedar. What d'you think?

I only wish I could answer questions like that. Sorry, I don't know enough about woods.

Is cedar flexible enough? It's always empressed me as being rather brittle.

Seems to me if your choices are limited, weight should not be the primary consideration. Remember, Moitessier built his masts for Joshua out of telephone poles. That something is not ideal speaks nothing of its adequacy.

What about snagging some aluminium pipe and building them up with that? If anything, that would seem the simpler option, and it would answer to both strength and lightness.
