Subject: any update?
In reply to: John 's message, "Refinishing" on - Thursday - 01/24/08 - 12:36pm

Hey Mark, any update on the stain you found a best match?

I'm likely going to need to restain the slats on the interior side of the bulkhead, so brand / color suggestions would be great.

Did you stain the cockpit splashboards (or coamings ... not sure the anatomically correct name).

I took them down to bare wood last year and refinished with Sikkens Cetol Marine Light (three coats) and then the clear finish (two coats). Given how muddy Cetol can be, I thought it came out pretty nice. The wood grain was visible, if not bright, and the redish hue grows on you, especially when the much reduced need for finish maintenance is taken into the equation.

It's pretty expensive, but we have found that Epiphanes provides the toughest, most durable finish--
