Subject: Wind turbine and electrical systems

Just bought a Mariner 32 (SenJer IV - will be renamed to The Osprey), a 1972. Want to run a laptop based nav system using SeaClearII - having trouble getting enough juice to run it off batteries so i'm thinking about getting a wind turbine to keep the batts topped off when not motoring. Anyone put one on a Mariner? Where did you place it? Any issues to be aware of? Im thinking about putting it on the mizzen fairly high up so i can run it when the main is up. Any advice, thoughts, warnings, comments welcome.

I have two 65 watt panels, on "Cactus Tree" seem to run my small reefer all day and anchor light all night fine. Use the laptop too, not a lot though.
Never considered wind, just a preference I guess. I'm looking at a wind generator on a Mariner 31 right now, it's on the top of the mizzen. Owners not around so can't ask about it.

Putting one anywhere lower than the top of the mizzen would eliminate the ability to fly either a mizzen staysail or a main backstaysail (mule). Something to think about.

I installed an Air-X marine wind generator on the mizzen mast of our M-40. It's definitely fine to keep the batteries charged on the mooring but not even close to keeping a refrigerator running non-stop. It might do the trick in a constant 25 knot breeze but doesn't cut it in the northeast breezes.
