Subject: Measuring 10 Mils

Am priming Murre's bum with Interlux 2001e(?), the water proofing stuff. Instructions call for 4 - 5 coats or whatever it takes to achieve 10 mils. Timing wise, 4 coats would be more convenient...would mean I could finish this weekend. Which leads to the obvious question: how does one measure 10 mils? If 10 mils is 1/100 of an inch, it appears that 10 sheets of office paper are ... almost it. Mostly a philosophical question at this point as the paint will be on by the time a read your answer. But I'd be interested to hear ...

Happy sailing...

RR

Randall, Have done lots of painting with Awlgrip, etc. I usually call the coat I put on 2 mil. Seems to work.

Hi Randall,
I've got a micrometer you can borrow, also a _____I can't remember the name of the tool, but it's a set of metal shims with measured thicknesses.

Thanks guys. Timing's got screwed up because of the weather any way. Was planning to have first coat of anti fouling on by yesterday, but the primer isn't drying as fast as I'd like, so project's getting pushed into the weekend, which means five coats is as convenient as four.
