Subject: Prop for M40

I am looking to replace the prop on our 1968 Mariner 40. It runs off a Perkins 4-107. Any thoughts on what type, size, pitch, etc. to go with?

Since prop size is driven by engine size rather than boat size, I feel free to say...

I have a Mariner 32 running the same engine as yours. Some years ago I was looking for a new three blade, and when asked, the guy at the prop shop told me the engine was RATED for a 13 inch 8 pitch three blade, which I've had ever since, and am VERY happy with. On a still day I can do 5 knots with barely any throttle. I can stop the boat so fast I've pitched folks off the bow. :)

Would be curious to hear back if you decide on something larger.

Good luck!

RR

Been running a 17x8 on ours for years with both the old Perkins 4-108 and the new Yanmar
