When I replaced the plywood, I did not adequately seat [countersink] the disc so it protrudes slightly. I sealed it with poly sealer and no problems. The one near the companionway goes through the spindled wood at the end of the half bulkhead near the center line. This is a good idea, since it makes that turned piece very strong so it can be used as a grab handle. When I slide the companionway hatch, it does rub on the disc. Recommend counter sinking, then glassing over.
