Subject: What's This

I recently purchased a 1980 Mariner 36 and noticed to port of the helm is a round indention on the lazzerette. It has a diameter of about 12 inches and is about a half inch deep. What is this for? Thanks.

Is it on the lid to the cooler? Have no idea. To port I have a cooler with drain, to starboard I have a bronze deckplate for the manual bilge pump.
